The project Hydrogen Power Storage & Solutions East Germany - HYPOS for short, sponsored by the Federal Government, devotes itself to an important question related to the storage of energy. The consortium, which includes institutions from Saxony-Anhalt, seeks tangible answers to the question: how can hydrogen generation technologies be connected to the existing infrastructure of gas pipelines and storage? With Hypos, green chemistry can be gradually introduced and new opportunities for the Middle German Chemical Triangle can be created.
Research for optimal grid integration is in full flow in Saxony-Anhalt as well. One of Germany’s largest mobile storage units, with an output of 1 megawatt, is located at the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation (IFF) in Magdeburg. Here, research is being done on the alignment of power capacity, as well as the control technology for the grids of the near future in order to ensure security of supply – 24/7.
